Passing Scores: The minimum passing score for the HEC LAT test is 50 out of 100 marks.
Test Format: The LAT is a 100-mark test with two main sections:
Objective Section (75 Marks): Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) covering:
- English (Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentences, Synonyms, Antonyms) - 20 marks
- General Knowledge (Current Affairs, Pakistan Studies, Basic General Knowledge) - 20 marks
- Islamic Studies or Ethics (Basic Islamic Concepts for Muslim students; Ethics for Non-Muslim students) - 10 marks
- Pakistan Studies (History and Culture) - 10 marks
- Basic Mathematics (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry) - 5 or 10 marks (sources vary slightly)
- Urdu (Vocabulary) - 10 marks
Subjective Section (25 Marks):
- Essay Writing (in English or Urdu, 200-250 words) - 15 marks
- Personal Statement (Why you want to study law, in English or Urdu, around 200 words) - 10 marks
Test Benefits:
- Mandatory for LLB Admission: Passing the LAT is a mandatory requirement for admission into the 5-year undergraduate LLB program in all HEC-recognized public and private sector universities and their affiliated colleges in Pakistan, as per the Supreme Court's directive.
- Recognition: Degrees obtained after passing the LAT are recognized by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and other educational and Pakistani agencies, potentially making it easier to get a law practice license.
- Validity: The LAT result is typically valid for two years.
Degrees Valid Because of This Test: The HEC LAT test is specifically for admission into the 5-year undergraduate LLB (Bachelor of Laws) program.
Apply Process:
- Visit the HEC ETC Portal.
- Create an Account/Log In: If you are a new user, sign up and complete your profile. If you already have an account, log in.
- Find the LAT Registration Link: Look for the "Law Admission Test (LAT)" link under the "Tests/Assessments" section (or similar).
- Fill out the Application Form: Provide all the required personal and academic details accurately.
- Upload Documents: You might need to upload a recent passport-size photograph and copies of your academic documents (e.g., HSSC/equivalent).
- Generate and Download Fee Challan: Download the fee challan form.
- Pay the Test Fee: Deposit the required fee (usually around PKR 1800) through the available methods mentioned on the challan (e.g., online banking, ATM, bank draft).
- Upload Paid Fee Challan: After payment, upload a scanned copy or picture of the paid challan on the portal.
- Submit the Application: Double-check all the information and submit the application form. Make sure the status shows as "SUBMITTED".
- Print Application Form: It's advisable to print a copy of your submitted application for your records.
- Download Roll Number Slip: Approximately one week before the test date, registered candidates will be able to download their roll number slips from the HEC ETC portal.
