Passing Scores:
- NTS does not define a specific "passing score" for the GAT test.
- The GAT score is used by various universities and Degree Awarding Institutes (DAIs) for admission to postgraduate programs. Each university/DAI has its own admission criteria and determines the acceptable GAT score for its programs.
- A cumulative score of 50% in GAT (General) is often considered a minimum requirement by some universities, but this can vary. You must check the admission policies of the specific universities you are applying to.
Test Format (GAT General):
- The GAT General test typically has a total of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- The test is divided into three main sections with the following approximate weightage:
- Verbal Reasoning (English): 30% (Analogies, Antonyms, Synonyms, Sentence Completion, Comprehension)
- Quantitative Reasoning (Mathematics): 30% (Basic Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic)
- Analytical Reasoning: 40% (Logical Reasoning, Problem Solving)
- The total duration of the test is usually 2 hours (120 minutes).
- There is generally no negative marking in the GAT General test, but it's always best to confirm this in the specific test instructions.
Test Benefits:
- Eligibility for Postgraduate Admissions: A valid GAT General score is often a prerequisite for admission into MS/MPhil programs in many HEC-recognized universities in Pakistan.
- Standardized Assessment: The GAT provides a standardized measure of your general academic aptitude for graduate-level studies.
- Wider Application Options: A good GAT score increases your chances of getting admission to a wider range of postgraduate programs across different universities that accept NTS GAT scores.
- Improve Previous Score: Candidates who wish to improve their previous GAT score can also reappear for the test.
- Two-Year Validity: The GAT General test score is generally valid for two years from the test date.
Degrees Valid Because of This Test:
The NTS GAT General test is primarily for admission into postgraduate (MS/MPhil) degree programs. Some universities may also consider GAT General scores for admission into PhD programs, but GAT Subject is often preferred or required for doctoral admissions.
Apply Process:
- Register Online: Go to the NTS online registration portal and register by creating an account (if you haven't already).
- Upload Photograph: Upload a recent passport-size color photograph as per the instructions on the portal.
- Apply for GAT General: Apply for the latest GAT General test available in the list of projects.
- Download Bank Deposit Slip: Download the GAT General bank deposit slip from the portal.
- Pay the Fee: Deposit the required test fee (currently PKR 1200/-) through the online bank deposit slip at designated branches of MCB, Meezan Bank, HBL, or ABL. Check the deposit slip for any applicable bank service charges.
- Submit Application: After paying the fee, enter the payment details on the online portal and submit your application. Do not send any documents other than the original bank deposit slip to NTS.
- Print Registration Slip: Once your registration is confirmed, you will be able to print your registration slip from the portal. Keep this slip for your record.
- Download Roll Number Slip: Approximately one week before the test date, NTS will issue the roll number slips online. You will need to download and print your roll number slip, which will contain your test center and time.
- Appear for the Test: On the test day, go to your assigned test center with your original CNIC or a valid passport and your printed roll number slip.
- Check Results: The GAT test results will be announced on the NTS website.
