Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following:

• Graduate Application Form: Complete the University of Cambridge's graduate application form.
• Gates Cambridge Funding Section: Indicate your intention to apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship in the funding section of the application.
• Gates Cambridge Statement: A personal statement (maximum 3000 characters) explaining why you are applying for the scholarship and how you meet its criteria.
• Research Proposal: For PhD applicants, a research proposal outlining your intended research.
• References: Three references—two academic and one Gates Cambridge reference.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers:

• University Composition Fee: Full coverage at the appropriate rate.
• Maintenance Allowance: £21,000 per annum for a single student (2024-25 rate).
• Airfare: One economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course.
• Visa Costs: Inbound visa costs and the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge.
• Discretionary Funding: Additional funding for academic development, dependent children allowance, fieldwork, maternity/paternity, and hardship.

Application Process

1. Choose a Course: Select an eligible graduate course at the University of Cambridge.
2. Contact Potential Supervisor: For research degrees (PhD, MPhil), contact a potential supervisor to discuss your research proposal.
3. Prepare Documents: Gather all required documents, including academic transcripts, references, and personal statements.
4. Submit Application: Apply through the University of Cambridge's Graduate Application Portal, ensuring you complete the Gates Cambridge funding section.
5. Departmental Nomination: Academic departments at Cambridge will nominate outstanding applicants for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
6. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview to assess their fit for the scholarship.
7. Final Selection: Successful candidates will be notified and offered the scholarship
