Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be new international students applying to enroll full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at the University of Waikato.
- Have received a conditional or unconditional offer of place from the university.
- Possess a minimum GPA equivalency of B+ in the qualification used for admission.
- Not currently be enrolled at the University of Waikato.
- Not have paid tuition fees at the time of application.
- Not be coming through a sponsoring body, Guaranteed Credit Arrangement, or a study abroad/student exchange agreement
Required Documents
- Conditional or unconditional offer of place from the University of Waikato.
- Academic transcripts and certificates.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable).
- Personal statement detailing reasons for choosing the University of Waikato and how the applicant will serve as a global ambassador.
Tests Required
- English Language Proficiency: Applicants must meet the University of Waikato's English language requirements, which may involve providing scores from tests such as IELTS or TOEFL
Scholarship Benefits
- Financial Support: Up to NZD $15,000 towards tuition fees, awarded based on academic merit and program duration.
- Tenure: The scholarship applies to the first 12 months of study, with the amount split evenly across two trimesters.
- Ambassadorship: Recipients are expected to act as global ambassadors for the University of Waikato.
Application Timeline
Applications are accepted year-round; however, to be considered for specific trimesters, submissions should be received by the following dates:
- A Trimester: 30 November
- B Trimester: 30 April
- C Trimester: 31 August
- H or X Trimester: 31 October
Application Process
- Apply for Admission: Submit an application to enroll in an eligible program at the University of Waikato.
- Access Scholarship Application: Once you have an offer of place, log into your MyWaikato account.
- Submit Scholarship Application: Navigate to the 'Scholarships' tab, select the Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship, and complete the application form, including the required personal statement.
- Await Decision: Applications are reviewed, and decisions are communicated within 8 to 12 weeks
